Ken
Lampl's talent for composing music that captures the exact
tone and pace of a film, and the emotional impact this has
on the audience, is truly exceptional. His music breaths
life into the characters of the movie, and then reaches
out and emotionally connects with the audience, without
ever being overbearing. What makes Ken Lampl even more rare
is that his talent is only matched by his dedication and
commitment to his work. He not only does his homework but
delves into the very core of what we are trying to achieve.
For every film, the director seeks the one gifted composer
who will be able to understand his movie, understand the
motives behind the characters' decisions, and deliver that
unique score which will connect with the viewers and leave
the audience breathless with what they have seen and felt.
In Ken Lampl I am fortunate enough to have found that composer.

Kenneth
Lampl created spine-tingling opening and closing themes
for my third feature film, "Satan's Playground." He also
composed many other beautifully haunting compositions and
soundscapes for the movie. Kenneth provides me with something
very unique...something that can't be bought on sample discs:
Rich and dynamic orchestral compositions with epic exuberance,
custom made to my needs. Kenneth is a spectacularly versatile
musician. Brooding, ominous violins? Check. Frenzied, operatic
percussion? Check. Moody, atmospheric synthesizer soundscapes?
Check. Kenneth Lampl can do it all. For my latest film,
"The Ocean" Kenneth has been composing eerie, otherworldly
compositions and celestial choral pieces by interpreting
and absorbing the mood of the apocalyptic screenplay. His
instincts are dead-on. It's so reassuring to know that I
am in good hands. I highly recommend Kenneth Lampl. I believe
he is one of the greatest composers of our time.

...working with Ken on Kandisha has been quite intense. We were miles apart and yet I could feel him torturing himself over every note.. You need that in a film. You need people going the extra mile and taking chances every step of the way... Otherwise you take the risk of ending up with a big empty...
Ken has the kind of magic that belongs to a different era. It's enchanting yet there is something disturbingly personal beneath that makes you want to close your eyes and wonder...

Few composers can match Ken’s background, training and encyclopedic
knowledge of music (and music theory)–but even fewer have an
understanding, as Ken does, of how music works alongside the moving
image. Ken has an extraordinary musical mind alongside a deep
sensitivity to story and character: the true mark of a brilliant film
composer.
Working with music, emotion and story is a highly nuanced (and often
elusive) process. Ken attunes himself to the more ineffable elements
of a film and somehow finds a way to augment scenes – story, rhythm,
character and mood – with perfect, subtle and powerful balance.
Beyond his musical expertise, Ken is one of the best collaborators a
filmmaker could hope to work with – he listens to your goals, finds a
way into the heart of the film and walks the line of expert and crew
member with unmatched grace. Often times in the edit, filmmakers get
glued to "ideal" temp tracks and original scores take some getting
used to – with Ken, the score blows the "perfect" temp track out of
the water. Similar to the experience of a great writing moment, when
characters begin to speak to the writer and dictate how the story
proceeds, watching your film with Ken’s score has a similar quality:
finally, your film slides into place — it appears. With the help of
Ken’s ears and eyes, your film tells you exactly what it needs to be.
A musical prodigy in his own right, an excellent collaborator and a
film enthusiast with the chops to submerge himself in any story,
regardless of genre or mood, Ken Lampl envelops every one of his
projects in musical gold.

Ken Lampl puts your vision for your film first. He takes this vision and builds upon it. This makes for a score more incredible than you ever imagined. His music truly works with your visuals so that the emotions and ideas you are trying to convey are brought across to your audience more clearly. Ken helps to take the audience on your journey. His music and arrangements are absolutely incredible and versatile. Need music for an orchestra? Ken can write and arrange beautiful string compositions. Need soul funk? Ken can make it for you. Need “James Bond” inspired spy music? Ken is your man. Ken is basically Nino Rota, John Williams and Barry White all in one.
Additionally, Ken cares about everything he creates. His heart and soul is in everything he does. He believes in your film…I think if he didn’t, he wouldn’t take the job because he knows how important it is to have dedicated people on a team. And lastly, he’s got a great sense of humor and is incredibly intelligent. I would recommend him to everyone, but I’d contract him focus all his time on my films if I could; he’s a keeper.
In Ken Lampl I am fortunate enough to have found that composer.

I first met Ken through the high recommendation of a mutual colleague, one of the lead actors in my feature film, "Hollywood Whores", when I was searching for an experienced composer for the film. This is a special film to me, not only because it was a true passion project for all of us who were involved, but because it introduced me to some amazingly talented artists, of which Ken has since become a member of a cherished inner circle. What a divine blessing it was to meet Ken when I did, as I often feel that many composers today, talented or not, lack a certain originality that can turn a good movie into a great film. But not Ken. He understands the intricacies of cinematic storytelling in such a way as to make his music accessible to any moviegoing audience, no matter the instruments that are used or the technologies that are applied. Ken understands the roots of character and emotion so well, I would not be surprised if someday he himself produces his own film.
When I auditioned Ken with a test scene, he literally hit it out of the ballpark, and I knew my search was over. It was a great pleasure to collaborate with him on all of the scenes that required a musical undertone, in addition to those that simply needed a traditional score. The day of our first spotting session, after Ken had watched the film once, his notes really hit the mark and were virtually in sync with my own notes. His energetic enthusiasm for the project was only matched by his positive level of expertise. Any new ideas he had only served to improve the outcome of the film, as they did, so it was wonderful to have his individual input and artistic imprint on the final soundtrack. When I had a test preview of the rough cut of the film without Ken's score with industry friends, it was recommended that I cut one of my favorite scenes because it did not necessarily "serve the story". Hogwash! After I screened the same exact scene with Ken's score several months later, it was ranked among the some of the best scenes in the film by the some of the same test audience. I cannot wait until our next collaboration.... And if you ever need to hear a good joke or two or simply want to hang out with a swell guy, Ken's your man. No joke, the guy is just plain cool.
